Mace & Menter is a user centred design consultancy based in Bristol specialising in user research and service design for public services and healthcare.
Since we founded the company in 2013, we’ve made a significant difference through our work. Whether that’s helping to improve patient pathways for autism diagnosis, researching and testing prototypes for job seekers or developing services to help children and young people with their mental health.
Our goal is to use our professional skills to create better experiences for better lives. We’re building a sustainable business that is working in the best interests of people and the planet.
We’re looking for three recent graduates interested in a career in user research and service design to join the Mace & Menter Academy on a paid, 12-week programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience, hone your skills and learn more about the field. You’ll work closely with experienced researchers and designers to observe live projects and deliver a project of your own.
To help you get familiar with the role, we’ll kick off with a general introduction to user research and service design. Through both self-directed learning and training sessions with the Mace & Menter team, you’ll cover the basics, pick up new techniques, and get a real feel for the work we do in a user-centred design consultancy.
In the second part of the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to apply everything you’ve learnt so far to your own project. Working as an Academy team, you’ll be given a brief to research a problem, design and test solutions, and then present these back to the company.
A salary of £415 per week, plus other allowances
Use of our studio in central Bristol, working alongside our talented team of researchers and designers
A chance to observe live agency projects
A hybrid-work model where you can split your time between home and the office
Help with your next step in the industry (reference, introductions, CV guidance, etc) when you finish
We encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and protected characteristics.
You don’t need previous experience working in user research or service design to apply, just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
You’re a recent graduate (within the last three years) who is able to push creative boundaries and come up with innovative solutions to complex problems. You’re keen to learn and happy to get stuck into projects with others. You’re an agile worker who can quickly adapt to different tasks.
Sound like you? Send in an application!
1. Send your CV and a short covering email (no more than 300 words) to academy@macementer.com
2. If you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited to a 15-minute call where we can get to know more about you (and you can learn a bit more about us!)
3. If we feel you’d be a good fit for our team, you’ll be invited to a longer interview
4. If both stages are successful, you’ll be offered a place at the Academy
The deadline for applications is 15th June 2022. Our first Academy cycle will begin in September 2022.
